1. How do I book an instrument?
Microscopes
All bookings for OPIC microscopes (Aquilos2, Krios, Glacios) are controlled by EM staff. To book, simply email embookings@strubi.ox.ac.uk with:
i. Your project name, associated PI.
ii. Grant code.
iii. Whether your sample is HG1/2/3.
iv. Any preferred days.
Other equipment e.g. plunging devices
Vitrobots etc. are bookable by users on the Aria website if you have been signed off to use these independently. Should you wish to be signed off, or you have issues with using the website, please contact emsupport@strubi.ox.ac.uk to arrange a sign off session. We strongly encourage users to train each other on equipment, since this helps to secure more experienced user knowledge, in addition to reducing workload on EM staff.
2. What is Aria?
Simply put, Aria is the booking system that we use for our instrument bookings. This helps with tracking usage of our instruments, charging appropriate grants and scheduling. It may seem quite buggy at times, but Aria has a lot of other functionalities e.g. mediating Instruct visits and so please be patient!
3. I am giving a talk/presenting a poster/writing a paper...how do I recognise OPIC?
It would be a great help for our facility if you could remember to acknowledge OPIC in any resulting publications, posters, and/or talks.
If you used BMRC resources as part of your visit, please also remember to acknowledge them too.
Suggested information:
"Electron microscopy provision was provided through the Oxford Particle Imaging Center (OPIC) Electron Microscopy Facility, a UK Instruct-ERIC Centre, which was founded by a Wellcome Trust JIF award (060208/Z/00/Z) and is supported by a Wellcome equipment grant (093305/Z/10/Z). Computation used the Oxford Biomedical Research Computing (BMRC) facility, a joint development between the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics and the Big Data Institute supported by Health Data Research UK and the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre."
Data transfer
Provided you follow the correct naming conventions (see internal pages for more detail), your data will be automatically transferred to the bmrc file storage system.
